This post has been written on my final day in Thailand. The journey, to say the least, has been a rollercoaster, physically and mentally, there have been many times I have wanted to quit and go home, so glad I did not leave.
As you know, training is twice a day and there is a lot of downtime between sessions…..I could never sleep during the downtime, so was either out walking or sitting in a coffee shop. Either way, my thoughts were always on mum.
At the beginning of my journey…..95kg
The temperature is 38c, which for me is perfect when it dropped to 30c I wore a jumper! I started running twice a day and the food portions decreased, I cut out all sugar, including sugar in products and no fizzy drinks, this will continue in England. Also, I noticed that I do not need carbs e.g. rice and bread, this has not had any negative effect on my training.
So I hear you all ask, what is my final weight……?
New weight, 79 kg
My target weight loss was 20kg, realistically this would have been a very hard target to achieve.
So why did I choose 20kg?
My thinking behind this was that if I chose 5kg or 10 kg, this is what I achieved in the first few weeks of training, once achieved I would not have any more motivation to carry on. At least by choosing 20kg I could not slack and had to keep going with the exercise and new healthy lifestyle…..
Even my blood pressure has gone from an extreme high to a more satisfactory reading:
Four weeks ago to the day, I arrived at Kiatphontip, Bangkok with the aim of losing 25kg from my starting weight of 95kg. I did not set any milestones, so this actually just happened…..in hindsight I should have set some milestones, but I am happy with my progress and today I weighed in at 84.9 kg, that is a loss of 10 kg in four weeks!
I have been very careful about what I eat and am very fortunate that Noona the amazing chef at the gym cooks very clean and healthy food. Many people who know me, know that I have a sweet tooth, luckily for me the fruit, especially watermelon and pineapple quench the need for sweets.
Here it is very easy to grab a bag of fruit and eat it on the go, these bags of fruit are 30 Thai Baht each.Salmon with scrambled eggs and greens, extremely filling and as Noona would say ‘soooooooo tasty!’The temptation to celebrate with eating with one of these amazing looking ice creams is great, but I better achieve my next milestone first!
The next four weeks I have set a milestone of losing another 10kg, this is where my training will have to be more intense!
Please keep following for more progress updates…..
Since watching the movie, Stand by Me, walking along the train tracks is something I have always wanted to experience, this was a live track and there was no way I could tell the direction of the trains, I was going to say watch the Vlog and find out if I survived, but it is a bit obvious I did, especially if afterwards, I am writing a blog!!
A few years ago when I first came to Thailand for an extended period, the diet was not taken seriously, eating the naughty snacks and having fizzy drinks, it took me at least a month to shed any weight.
This trip is different, from day two (day one I had durian!) I took the diet very seriously and shed 6 kg in the first 6 days. Some of this could be water weight, nonetheless, I am using this as a positive booster.
I am sat here with my one vice, black coffee. Which according to some websites is a good thing and with other websites it is bad!
Enjoying a strong black coffee whilst creating this post.
All I can say is everything in moderation (well sometimes!.)
I am pondering the life changing goal of a 25kg (well 20kg now!) weight loss. Taking extreme measures as to only eat what Noona at the gym cooks for me. No sweets, snacks, fizzy drinks or alcohol. For those who know me, know that this is not easy, especially when I walk into coffee shops and see an amazing selection of cakes. By the way, I have a sweet tooth!
I am sure these are here ONLY to tease me!!
Luckily, here in Thailand, when I do fancy something sweet I can get some pineapple or watermelon, it gets rid of my sweet craving. Here the fruit tastes like it should…..!!!
At the gym I get a good variety of fresh fish, meats and vegetables with rice which is the staple diet.
Rice, fish curry and vegetable soup with bits of pork. Rice, fish salad and chicken curryAll cooked by the amazing chef and sister, NoonaTom Yum
A lot of my eating habits need to change, for example, I am a very fast eater….the food would be piled into my mouth, head straight, unchewed into my stomach, where the poor stomach would have to do the hard work of processing it. By the time the stomach has done what it had, the second load of food appears, for my stomach, this is a never-ending story. Feeling sorry for me stomach?!
Also, snacking is a big no, easy to say whilst in Thailand, as the heat distinguishes the hunger.
This is all a mindset that needs to be changed for a long and healthy future…..
