Yellow Market, Salaya, Thailand…..

Yellow Market, Salaya, Thailand…..

One of my favourite pastimes whilst here is to walk to the ‘yellow market.’ I just adore seeing the various kinds of fruits and vegetables. The meat, fish and eels are a sight to be seen! Today, there were many more stalls because of the forthcoming Chinese New Year

I hope you enjoy the video and would love to have your comments, at the moment I am learning new techniques for taking and editing videos, so all comments gratefully received.

Thank you!

Holiday Money…..

Holiday Money…..

Many people have asked about holiday money. Do I use the ATM, which bank cards do I use for holidays……

I use the following banks for holiday money, N26, Revolut and Starling. The reason I chose these banks, is because they do not charge for any withdrawals and the exchange rate they offer at overseas ATM’s and places that take card payment is very favourable to the consumer. Whilst travelling I am not a big fan of carrying too much cash, I prefer to pay using the card, where it is accepted.

Regardless of which bank I use here in Thailand, I noticed that if I need cash, the majority of ATM’s will charge 220 baht, which can add up. Aeon Thana Simsap is the only one I found which charges 150 baht.

Found to be the cheapest and only charge 150 baht for cash withdrawal

The other banks charge 220 baht for a withdrawal transaction charge:

If whilst traveling in Thailand you have found a cheaper/free transaction fee, please do comment below!

Weekend Antics…..

Weekend Antics…..

Over the weekend I did not train or do any exercise, apart from some walking. Which in my eyes is not really an exercise!

On Saturday I visited Chatuchak Market, once only popular among wholesalers and traders, Chatuchak Weekend Market has reached a landmark status as a must-visit place for tourists. Its sheer size and diverse collections of merchandise will bring any seasoned shoppers to their knees – this is where you can literally shop ‘till you drop’. The 35-acre (68-rai) area of Chatuchak is home to more than 8,000 market stalls. On a typical weekend, more than 200,000 visitors come here to sift through the goods on offer. Veteran shoppers would agree that just about everything is on sale here, although not all at the best bargain rates. But if you have one weekend in Bangkok, squeeze in a day trip to Chatuchak Weekend Market and you will not be disappointed.

Some of the alleyways can become crowded.

After a few hours at the market, I was exhausted and decided to go home for a rest!

In the evening my friend and I went to the movies. Travelling on the bike in Thailand was, to say the least, an adventure!

The movie is called Glass, I am not here to promote or advertise the movie so readers you can google about this!

On Sunday I decided to meet a friend for lunch. On my first three month trip to Thailand, I had a lot of downtime in between training. So as a ‘paying it forward’ I decided to teach English at the local coffee shop for free. I had 13 students attend and we all still keep in touch, many students have gone on to successful careers, chemical engineers, lawyers, doctors and teachers. I would love to say it is probably down to my English classes, but most likely it is not!

We met at the Millennium Hilton and walked to the newly built mall, Iconsian. The mall blew my mind, it is a very impressive mall, each shop was a designer brand! The prices made the luxury store Harrods in London look affordable!

The stunning interior
Even the toilet sinks were impressive!!

Thailand has imposed a ‘luxury tax’ for the designer items, European cars attract a 200% tax. The designer goods in this mall were at least twice as expensive as the UK. The main people that I saw shopping there were Chinese.

No post could be complete without a picture of me!

Time for tea and before you ask, no, I did not have the macarons. Also, notice the halo above my head!

Whilst concentrating and taking a video of this amazing waterfall, my left foot went into the water!

I do feel guilty for not training over the weekend but this weekend was well needed and looking back, I have no regrets. Also, as you can tell I am in love with the ambience and atmosphere for this fantastic mall.

My Thoughts on my 25kg Target Weight Loss

My Thoughts on my 25kg Target Weight Loss

I am sat here with my one vice, black coffee. Which according to some websites is a good thing and with other websites it is bad!

Enjoying a strong black coffee whilst creating this post.

All I can say is everything in moderation (well sometimes!.)

I am pondering the life changing goal of a 25kg (well 20kg now!) weight loss. Taking extreme measures as to only eat what Noona at the gym cooks for me. No sweets, snacks, fizzy drinks or alcohol. For those who know me, know that this is not easy, especially when I walk into coffee shops and see an amazing selection of cakes. By the way, I have a sweet tooth!

I am sure these are here ONLY to tease me!!

Luckily, here in Thailand, when I do fancy something sweet I can get some pineapple or watermelon, it gets rid of my sweet craving. Here the fruit tastes like it should…..!!!

At the gym I get a good variety of fresh fish, meats and vegetables with rice which is the staple diet.

Rice, fish curry and vegetable soup with bits of pork.

A lot of my eating habits need to change, for example, I am a very fast eater….the food would be piled into my mouth, head straight, unchewed into my stomach, where the poor stomach would have to do the hard work of processing it. By the time the stomach has done what it had, the second load of food appears, for my stomach, this is a never-ending story. Feeling sorry for me stomach?!

Also, snacking is a big no, easy to say whilst in Thailand, as the heat distinguishes the hunger.

This is all a mindset that needs to be changed for a long and healthy future…..
