On the weekdays I have started teaching English. This starts at 8 pm and is for an hour. If you are in the area please do pop in!

I have 6 students who are very good at conversational English but just need to build up their confidence.

One of the students bought me this very tasty gift

No I have not tried to smoke it! Inside the leaf which has been cooked is a very sweet coconut.
I taught the students always to ask themselves the following when writing:

How
When
Where
Why
What

My father taught me this 30 years ago, amazing how I am now teaching this!!

Keep alert…..!

Keep alert…..!

On Sundays when I visit the Gurdwara, the bus drops me off just past The Grand Palace.

Location of Grand Palace

If you visit the Grand Palace, it is very likely, that near the entrance you will be approached by someone wearing a uniform and looking very official who will tell you that The Palace is closed for a couple of hours except to local people. He will then offer to arrange a tuc-tuc to take you to some other places of interest in the area, whilst you wait for the palace to re-open. The Palace does NOT close during the day but these people can be very plausible. Just politely decline their advice and make your way to the entrance and enjoy the wonderful Grand Palace.
Inside The Grand Palace:

Other scams:

The 30 Baht Tuk-Tuk Ride
You may come across a tuk-tuk driver who offers to take you wherever you want to go for just 30 baht. The catch — you've got to come with him first to either a gem store or a tailor. The driver gets a cut of anything you buy. Unless you have tons of time to waste or were in the market for overpriced gems or a new suit from an unknown tailor, it's definitely not a good deal for you!
The Meter's Broken

If you get into a taxi and the driver tells you that the meter is broken, get out of the taxi. The meter isn't broken, the taxi driver is trying to get you to pay more than the meter rate for your ride, and usually a lot more. Arguing is futile, and bargaining will only get you a price slightly less astronomical than the one the driver quotes you to take you wherever you want to go. The only exception — Phuket, where there are so few taxis everyone is at their mercy and rates are astronomical!

Two-Tiered Pricing

Some merchants will automatically charge foreign tourists more than they charge local Thais, whether they are selling fruit in the street, hotel rooms or t-shirts. Unfortunately there is rarely anything to be done about this scam, other than just walking away and finding another person to buy from.

If you know of any other scams, please do comment here and let others know.

Farm…..

Farm…..

My friend Inderjit Singh from Bangkok picked me up and we visited his farm.

The drive took two hours, it felt great to be leaving the smog and seeing greenery! The air felt amazing and I was filling my lungs.

We brought back many bananas!
Inderjit Singh on the right sitting next to his helper. The helper is a very lucky man, a while back a king cobra came into his bed. Luckily he heard the hissing got out, killed and ate the snake! Apparently the king cobra is the tastiest!
50 acres of farm, ready for harvesting

The bananas we brought back.
Once Inderjit Singh has built a few huts to sleep in, he will be looking for WWOOFers. So if you do not mind snakes…..this will be a great area to learn about organic farming.

On the way back to bangkok we stopped for a late lunch at
Chokchai steak house. They do vegetarian meals, the staff are knowledgable about soups containing chicken broth.
Chokchai Steakhouse was first established in 1971 when Khun Chokchai Bulakul built “Chokchai Building”, the tallest skyscraper in Thailand at that time (26 storeys), and opened Chokchai Steakhouse on the 23rd floor. The restaurant was styled in a classic Country & Western motif, offering spectacular skyline views of Bangkok. Soon after the opening, Chokchai Steakhouse became famous for its high quality steak, offering both imported and Farm Chokchai beef.
In 1985, Chokchai Steakhouse expanded its business in the form of a fast food restaurant at the food center of MBK Shopping Center, which remained a success until 1990, when the space leasing contract was up.
In 1986, Chokchai Steakhouse, the Pakchong branch was established in the front area of Farm Chokchai, Pakchong, Nakhon Ratchasima. The restaurant has been so well-received from customers that it has been expanded to serve up to 600 guests, compared to 150 guests at the beginning, and is now housed in a three-storey building with meeting space.
In 1991, Chokchai Steakhouse, Rangsit branch, was founded with the dream of creating a steak house with a Modern Country style blended with a cowboy edge: the distinctive look of Chokchai Steakhouse.
In 1995, Khun Choak Bulakul launched Chokchai Prime Steak House, Sukhumvit 23 branch, in a different style which offered a luxurious Modern Western ambiance that still epitomizes the legendary cowboy of Farm Chokchai.

Why no weight loss…..?

Starting weight: 88.8kg
Target weight: 63kg
Weight recorded on September 13 2013: 88.5kg

I have been training for two weeks and still not had any weight loss!! In fact my weight went up to 90 kg before coming back down to 88.5 kg!!
Just do not understand this, am I not destined to loose weight?!?! Am I loosing weight and the lump stuck to my intestine is gaining weight??

As you know, training is twice a day followed by a meal. Therefore two meals a day. Back home I train once a week and eat three times a day plus inbetween snacking……even then my weight has been 88 – 90kg.

Any suggestions on where I am going wrong…..?

Transport…..

Transport…..

From WPT Gym there are a number of ways of getting to downtown Bangkok:

Taxi

Pro: door to door service

Con: Expensive

Walking

Pro: free

Con: time consuming and can be very tiring in the hot weather

Bus

Pro: cheap

Con: can take up to two hours depending on traffic

I decided to try the bus, especially as today I was visiting the Gurdwara. The bus stop is on the main road and shows which busses stop there.

Bus number 60 will take you from this bus stop to the Grand Palace and costs 23 Thai Baht each way, a bargain!
Once you see the bus coming you have to flag it down, otherwise it will drive past you.
On the bus you just find a seat, the ticket inspector will come to you and ask your final destination, they will then give you the price.
