Tuesday – White Tantric…..

Tuesday – White Tantric…..

In order for me to get my certificate to teach Kundalini Yoga, I needed to complete the white tantric. At summer solstice white tantric is held over three days, for the certificate, I only needed to complete one day.

About White Tantric Yoga® And Meditation
Our minds release 1000 thoughts per wink of an eye. Some of these thoughts get lost in the unconscious, and some get stuck in the subconscious and affect the conscious mind. These thoughts become feelings, emotions, desires, multi-realities or fantasies. Instead of mastering our mind, often our mind and thoughts direct or distract us, which can result in impulsive decisions, poor communication and self-imposed stress.White Tantric Yoga® enables you to break through these subconscious blocks, so you can have a more enjoyable life. In the shortest time, you can experience release from a lot of the burden you carry in your mind. When you see and act on each moment with clarity, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your life can change.Your mind, body, and soul can act together as one. This is the path to personal freedom and awareness, and will bring more success to every area of your life.

What to Expect
White Tantric Yoga® is done in pairs as a group meditation. You sit facing a partner and follow instructions for meditation given on video by the Mahan Tantric,Yogi Bhajan. A representative of the Mahan Tantric will be present to facilitate White Tantric Yoga®. Each workshop consists of between six and eight kriyas. A kriya is a meditation incorporating one or all of the following:

• a yoga posture (asana)

• a breathing technique (pranayam)

• a mental focus

• and/or a mantra

• a hand position (mudra)

Sometimes the kriyas are accompanied by music. These kriyas vary in length up to sixty-two minutes. There are breaks in between each kriya. The environment is peaceful, and the atmosphere is friendly, supportive, and uplifting. A vegetarian lunch is provided.

How it Works
Envision the energy of the universe as both parallel and perpendicu- lar in nature, like a cloth woven together. As a cloth becomes stronger whenitisstretchedonthediagonal, sotheWhiteTantricYoga® diagonal, or ‘Z’ energy is stronger. This energy, when directed by the Mahan Tantric, cuts through the blocks that are stuck in the subconscious mind.
Using the diagonal energy, the Mahan Tantric,Yogi Bhajan, connects his subtle body to the subtle bodies of the participants through the course facilitator. This works the same way as a worldwide telephone system that relies on satellites and electromagnetic energy in order to connect two parties.
WhiteTantricYoga® should not be confused with blackor red tantric. Those forms of yoga also transform energy, but in a different way and for different purposes. Black tantric directs the energy to manipulate other human beings and red tantric directs the energy solely for sexual purposes.
In the evening we said our very long goodbyes and headed to the Sheraton Hotel in Albuquerque, the next day we headed back home.

Friday…..Day 2, Summer Solstice…..

Friday…..Day 2, Summer Solstice…..

Well had a very rough night’s sleep, the wind was howling. To sleep in these basic conditions, one has to be a hardened camper!! Really not sure how Sangeet did it. She was having the cold shower at 3am when the outside temperature drops to it lowest, I was frozen!

Once I did manage to get up, still feeling like I needed a lot more sleep. I tried out the showers, apparently if you stay in the showers long enough the water is supposed to get warm……this is so untrue, I had my arm under the shower for at least 15 minutes the water remained cold, very cold!! Okay now we have an issue I need at least one warm/hot shower a day, preferably as soon as I awake…I washed my main parts (I will let you figure that out!). Headed over to the main shelter.
Breakfast was being served.

There is a solstice diet, which was designed by Yogi Bhajan (except for lunch).

The Solstice Menu

Breakfast
2 Oranges

2 Bananas

Solstice Potato Soup

Lunch

Hummus
Quinoa

Dinner
Mung Beans and Rice

Beets and Carrots

Solstice Hot Sauce
Golden Milk

Yogi Tea

Naturally, the lines for the portable restrooms move along quickly!

Golden Milk is milk with turmeric paste dissolved in it, and it is served at night after White Tantric to ease muscles sore from long hours spent in meditation. This is what Yogi Bhajan had to say about turmeric: “There is nothing more effective than turmeric to clean your body and purify it. There is nothing more precious on this earth but turmeric. Turmeric, it solves every problem which cannot be solved.

After breakfast we had the karma sewa meeting. On registration the participants can choose what karma sewa they would like to do.

What is Karma Yoga?

Karma Yoga (also called Seva) is a necessary aspect of Kundalini Yoga. It is based on the law of Karma: “Everything you do, comes back to you tenfold”. This is true for all your negative actions, but also for whatever you do positive and selflessly. Without Karma Yoga, there is a risk that doing yoga just for yourself, instead of slowly dissolving the ego, hardens it and leads to narcissism. Karma Yoga supports the creation of community and leads to friendship, love and group consciousness.

My karma yoga was security, we had to monitor traffic coming in and out of the solstice site, also have a walk around the area making sure people are parking where they should…

At the beginning of the meeting we did the global sardhana meditation.

What is the Spirit Voyage 40 Day Global Sadhanas?

The Spirit Voyage 40 Day Global Sadhanas is an opportunity for you to come together with a global sangat (spiritual community) representing over 75 countries and numbering over 20,000 participants. For 40 days, led by Spirit Voyage, a community comes together to all practice the same Kundalini yoga meditation, mantra or kriya. Participation is free. The Spirit Voyage 40 Day Global Sadhanas are a place for you to come home to yourself, to feel connected to a community no matter where in the world you are, to get the inspiration to stick to practices that you might not otherwise try, and to experience the incredible power of Kundalini yoga for yourself. They are gifts to you from you, and each has its own special gift to unwrap. During the Spirit Voyage 40 Day Global Sadhanas, people from different nationalities, races, faiths, genders, sexual orientations, and walks of life lay all their differences aside and celebrate their similarities as beings of light and as people of love.

The theme of this years summer solstice was ‘Recognize the Other Person is You’

After the meeting we went to Dr Sham Rang Singh Khalsa’slecture on the kara. We first met the Dr in Nevada City. The lecture was very good.

Due to stomach issues I am unable to eat the solstice food, luckily there was freshly cut watermelon, in this heat it was great to eat that. Temperature during the solstice event was between 90 to 100 degrees F.

Now time for my security sewa, I was given a radio, which was probably a big mistake. I kept trying to order pizza. Also kept saying there is a taxi waiting for Jesus. As you can tell my security sewa did not last long! Time to find another sewa group!

In the evening there was an international party, this is held by one of the sangat members, they cooked a fantastic dinner, also hosted the party at their home where around 300 solstice members attended. This year we were also blessed by 25 yogis from China and 25 from Taiwan. One of the Chinese ladies gave a demonstration of Kung Fu and Thai Chi.

The party was fantastic. Great music and amazing food.

Great friends…..

Great friends…..

Yesterday as soon as I tasted the lungar, I just knew this would lead me to having stomach issues. I really need to be more strict now and still realise that the stomach issue has not been resolved.

So this morning was a lazy morning, just recovering and taking pity on myself!!

For lunch we met up with good friends Ben and Carey, I met Carey last year on the Kundalini teacher training. They were invited to the Gold House (where we were staying last year) and had fun mixing with everybody.

We reached their beautiful house. I drove into their drive and heard a dog barking. It smelt brown meat and I am sure it wanted some!! Carey said come on up, it is a friendly dog, I refused! We had arrived about 45 minutes late, Carey asked us, “what time are you working on?” That was funny.

We drove to

I was tempted to go for the dhosa which comes with a spicy lentil dish (seems like I just do not learn my lesson!) I decided to go for the shepherds pie and am glad I did. It was a very tasty and filling meal.

A great hot chocolateIMAGE_1493.jpeg

The four of us just had great conversation, and the time flew by. We got to the restaurant around 2pm and left at 4:30pm!

Carey, me and Ben

IMAGE_1497.jpeg

We dropped of Ben and Carey, they kindly went in first and moved the dog away from biting distance!! We went in and chatted a bit more on leaving they gave us some amazing chocolate from Peru and a book called 'Be Here Now'. Bit like a hippy guide!

Be Here Now (or Remember, Be Here Now) is a seminal 1971 book on spirituality, yoga and meditation by the Western born yogi and spiritual teacher Ram Dass. The title comes from a statement his guide, Bhagavan Das, made during Ram Dass's journeys in India. The cover features a Mandala incorporating the title, a chair, radial lines, and the word “remember”

Back at the house we got to spend some time with paji and phenji, it is fantastic being in their company.

Afterwards, we went to the Gurdwara to meet Harijot Singh and recite Rehraas, we decided to go for a coffee, I thought to myself where will we go for coffee….Santa Fe?!? which is twenty minutes away…..it later turned out Harijot was thinking the same. Outside the Gurdwara we saw Prabhu Singh and got chatting to him. Whilst in conversation Sat Purkh Kaur and Abhai Raj Singh were on security duty and checking on people loitering, naturally they came to us! They invited us to their house as Sat Purkh Kaur had made rhubarb pie (I have been pestering her for a while to make pie!), this was very tasty and their house is amazing.

Home…..

Home…..

Early start, here in Espanola Sardhana starts at 3:40 am, at 4am there is a Kundalini yoga set, followed at 4:45 with chanting, the Gurdwara programme starts at 6am.

Afterwards we went back to the house where Shanti phenji had made a very tasty breakfast, it was great to see the whole family taking time out of their busy schedule to eat together. Something we should all take on board.

We then got ready and off to the Gurdwara, it so feels like we have been away on holiday and now come back home to Espanola. The sangat are amazing, so warm and friendly. After the programme where we were fortunate to hear kirtan by Chardi Kala Jatha, we had lungar. It was very nice talking to the sangat, they all came over said Fateh and gave us big hugs.

IMAGE_1487.jpeg

The children always participate in the programmesIMAGE_1489.jpeg

For the evening we had planned to go to the cinema with Harijot Singh, to watch superman. Others were mentioning about a drum party. Which also sounded like fun.

As we had a few hours spare we drove to Tesuque village, an upmarket area outside Santa Fe. The houses are all adobe and looked huge.

Sangeet had been finding the desert heat during the day very intense so decided to take it easy at Shanti phenji's house. I met Harijot Singh at the Gurdwara. They were celebrating the birthday of Pritpal Singh. Harijot also mentioned the drum party, we agreed that we can go to the cinema any day. At the drum party we met Gurjot Singh and his wife, it was great to see them.

Later that night I dropped Gurjot and his wife home and Harijot at the Gurdwara. It was great catching up with everybody.

Acarta…..

Acarta…..

After leaving Trinidad we headed south on 101 to a university town called Acarta. As soon as you enter the downtown area you can see that the hippy generation is very much alive here. We drove a couple of blocks when all of a sudden somebody shouts SAT NAAM! That just felt so amazing to hear, I did not know who it was but shouted Sat Naam back!

20121003-103417.jpg

We needed some cash so drove to Chase bank, unfortunately they charged $3 per transaction so we declined and carried on exploring the downtown area by car.

Sangeet remembers there was a vegetarian cafe in town, as we could not find it we decided to drive the two hours to a town called Redding, then all of a sudden the cafe was on the corner! As we were both pretty full we decided to park up and ‘just’ look at the menu.

The cafe is called Wildflower
Fine vegetarian cuisine

After ‘just’ looking at the menu, we decided to sit down and order some food, well we might as well review it now that we are here!

Sangeet ordered a scrambled tofu and I had Eric’s favourite, a burger consisting of grilled tofu, portobello mushroom and onions. Both meals were fantastic!!

Afterwards we started our journey to Redding, taking the 101 north then 299 east. The drive was amazing and we drove through Trinity national park. What spectacular views!

Redwoods National Park…..

Redwoods National Park…..

After the inn manager gave us a very good deal on the second night we decided to stay!

After a relaxing morning we drove to the Redwoods National Park. As we got onto interstate 101 after leaving Trinidad, we passed the same beach as yesterday and decided to stop there for a few minutes. Me being a lover of water decided to go as far as I dare and risk the waves. At first the waves were gently massaging my feet, after some time they were getting stronger and almost making me fall….I was soaked but had a great time.

We then drove to the visitor centre near a town called Orick (population of 650):

After the walk we drove north on the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway a very scenic drive!

On the way back to Trinidad we stopped again at the beach only for a few minutes. We carried on then saw a turning for the lagoon…this place was amazing. A VERY quite lagoon with the sun setting in the background. BEAUTIFUL!!

Afterwards whilst driving we saw the sun setting over the ocean so stopped and watched it set.

As all the restaurants in trinidad are fish restaurants we decided to head to Murphy’s grocery, Sangeet bought mutter paneer and pizza o and ice cream! I have nachos with salsa and good staple diet!

We ate back at the inn, after a few hours updating emails, the blog, Facebook, backing up the pictures we went to sleep……!
