A pitaya or pitahaya is the fruit of several cactus species. “Pitaya” usually refers to fruit of the genus Stenocereus, while “Pitahaya” or “Dragonfruit” always refers to fruit of the genus Hylocereus.

The towers is something I have been wanting to see for a long time. We were amazed not only at the height but also at the beauty of the towers.

Petronas Towers

The Petronas Towers, also known as the Petronas Twin Towers (Malay: Menara Petronas, or Menara Berkembar Petronas; Chinese: 雙峰塔, or 国油双塔) are twin skyscrapers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to the CTBUH’s official definition and ranking, they were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 until surpassed by Taipei 101. The buildings are the landmark of Kuala Lumpur with nearby Kuala Lumpur Tower.

Afterwards we walked to a fantastic monastery

Dharma Realm Guan Yin Sagely
161, Jalan Ampang,
50450, Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia
T: +60 32 164 8055

A little temple at the KLCC end of Jalan Ampang that usually goes unnoticed by many people who come to this part of town. This temple is better known as Kun Yam Thong (literally Guan Yin’s Hall) in Cantonese, but the name on the signboard says Deng Bi An (登彼岸) which means stepping to the other shore. True enough, stepping into the temple grounds makes you feel like you have been transported away from the hustle and bustle of KLCC and the city roads into a tranquil garden of peace and serenity; unless you happen to go on the first or the fifteen of the lunar month or any of the deities celebrations days – where the atmosphere is more festive.

How to get to the monastery
It is located just beside Menara Atlan (formerly Menara Naluri) / the Zon on the Jalan Ampang side (you can walk through the Zon to Menara Atlan from the KLCC Park side). Restorant Chef Choi flanks the temple’s other side and somewhat opposite the temple is Corus Hotel. If you exit from Isetan in Suria KLCC at the ground floor (the Menara Maxis side exit), walk towards Jalan Ampang. At the junction (facing Jalan Ampang), just turn right (heading in the direction of the Jalan Tun Razak intersection) and walk down the road past Wisma Central and continue past Pelita Nasi Kandar and Restaurant Chef Choi. You will catch sight of the temple (or at least the temple’s perimeter) once you pass by Pelita Nasi Kandar.

I am sure you will agree this is a fantastic looking monastery.

I looked into a way of getting from from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, we have the following options

1) fly and not see anything, time taken 40 minutes
2) bus cheap and see everything but takes 6 hours
3) walk, good exercise but will take a while!
4) taxi would costs a fortune.
5) train takes same time as the bus and more expensive.
I decided to book a one way ticket with Aeroliner total cost RM60

Afterwards I took a taxi to the Gurdwara. The taxi driver did not know where the location of the Gurdwara was, so together we sort of worked it out. We passed a building where I could hear Kirtan. So I asked the taxi driver to drop me off, paid and said bye. I walked into the house thinking this does not look like a big Gurdwara. Perhaps they are just using it as a temporary Gurdwara. I walked in and a gentleman asked me what a, I looking for? I was puzzled and said the Guru Granth Sahib. He said “this is my house the Gurdwara is a block away” I apologised and made my way. They were very friendly and asked me inside. I said I had to go as Sangeet was waiting for me. I walked to the Gurdwara and was surprised to see nobody there. Earlier Sangeet said there was Kirtan and Simran at the Gurdwara. I looked for Sangeet’s battered flip flops and could not find them. I then asked the Giani if he had see a lady with a turban. He said no.

By now I was puzzled. So walked back to the house, I first went to and asked them if there is another Gurdwara. They said yes but 25 minutes away by walking. He offered to give me a lift which I accepted. The chaps name is Dilbagh Singh, they were holding Kirtan at their house as their mother had passed away three days earlier. Amongst this sad news he still took time out to give me a lift to the Gurdwara. Even though we did not know each other, he opened up to me and said “I really do not know how I will cope” I said “do Simran and Paath in this time of need that will give you strength”. He dropped me off at the Gurdwara and I thanked him.

At the Gurdwara, Kirtan was performed. Afterwards we had Guru Ka Lungar. Sangeet was approached by a boy called Melvyn. He said “I have not seen you here before. Where are you from?” Sangeet explained. Other sangat members introduced themselves, this is such a loving and polite sangat. It was so amazing to see and feel their love.

As we were chatting to Melvyn he told us of a camp on at the moment in Cameran Highlands. Melvyn is 16 years old but can converse at a much older age, his love for Sikhi shows through. He is the only one in his family to take Amrit at the age of 12. He is an amazing guy and a fantastic inspiration.

As we had already booked the tickets to Penang, perhaps we could get a bus from Penang to Cameran Highlands. Something to think about.

We got a lift back to the hotel from Gurleen Kaur. It was quite amazing to see many people offering us a lift!

We got back to the hotel with so much joy. The love shown to us was amazing!

Flustered…..!

Flustered…..!

After a huge breakfast which consisted of dragon fruit, melon, pineapple and aloo puree. together with a cup of Indian tea. This will definitely keep me going all day!

We walked to the Gurdwara.

As it was a weekday there were only a handful of people.

Despite the popular belief that Sikhs were brought to the then Malaya as police and soldiers, historically it is proven that Sikhs were actually sent to Malaya as political prisoners. The first few Sikhs to set foot in Malaya were Nihal Singh (better known as Bhai Maharaj Singh) and Kharak Singh, who were thrown out of India due to anti-British involvement somewhere around 1800. These prisoners were sent to the Outram Road prison in what is now Singapore. In 1865, it is believed that the process of migration of Sikhs to Malaysia started again but this time involved recruitment in the armed forces in the British Empire mainly as police, military and guards.
There are a total of 112 gurdwaras throughout Malaysia. 42 of them are situated in the state of Perak, where the majority of Sikhs in Malaysia resides.

Afterwards we popped to

Plaza Low Yat (Simplified/Traditional Chinese: 刘蝶广场 / 劉蝶廣場; Pinyin: Liú Dié guǎng chǎng; Malay: Plaza Low Yat), or commonly referred to as PLY, is an established commercial shopping centre specializing in electronics and IT products in Malaysia. As an IT related product shopping centre, Plaza Low Yat is the most well known and most established among competitors and is to Kuala Lumpur what Sim Lim Square and Funan is to Singapore. In year 2009, Plaza Low Yat has been accorded “Malaysia’s Largest IT Lifestyle Mall” by the Malaysia Book of Records.
Located at No.7, Jalan Bintang, Off Jalan Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang Central, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, PLY offers a great variety of single products with its collection of inter-chained stores. This is in contrast with streamlined arrangements in other electronics malls. Therefore, PLY allows the consumer to have greater buying power and freedom in selecting the products or electronic parts they wish to purchase. Most parts that are sold here are bargainable and many stores also offer their services to assemble the parts tailor-made to the customers’ specifications.
Each floor within the complex has its own speciality specialising in laptops, mobile phones, etc. Eateries and cafes can be found at most of the floors.

IT!! Hence the big smile

Whilst Sangeet recited her paath (prayers) I popped to Excellent Vege Re, I managed to get halfway before turning back……all I could hear was “massage sir!?” and also Sat Sri Akal come to our restaurant we do halal!!

This was getting very annoying so I turned back and went back to the hotel! Whilst I was having breakfast in the morning the waiter gave me some containers so I could pick the fruit and take it with us……we may be in a nice hotel but whilst on this trip I have learnt to horde food for later! So once I got back to the hotel I ate the fruit.
